With the announcement of the new Nitroplus fighting game, Saya is depicted in her human form, with the ability to transform her hair and limbs into viscera.
Note that everything around Saya is a normal environment, yet she retains her human form.
Anyone who has played Saya no Uta, probably thinks that this is impossible, because Saya's true form is a flesh monster, and what the player perceives is merely Fuminori's hallucination. But is this really the case?
This wouldn't be the first time Saya was depicted in a human form in an environment that wasn't fleshy. In the OP of Saya no Uta itself, you can see Saya in her 'human' form inside what looks like a normal, white room, at 1:12 of the OP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bITbXs1wHVs
So as you can see from both her cannon appearance in the OP, and her non-cannon appearence in the fighting game, Saya is capable of holding a human form.
So why ingame Saya no Uta, is she depicted as a flesh monster? I have 2 theories.
Everyone in Saya no Uta ARE the flesh monsters. It's everyone but Fuminori who was hallucinating, and Fuminori was in fact perceiving the world as it really was.
The basis for this idea, is that Fuminori seems to have no problems moving through the world, despite clumps of flesh being everywhere on the streets. What if this were really the case?
Another big hint to this theory is the fact that Saya was able to be raped by the neighbour guy. One question: How the fuck does someone rape a grotesque tentacle monster? Seriously, even if you could hallucinate them as human, how would that even be able to filter where the vagina and ass are?
The only explanation is that Saya's body structure is actually very simple.
This is the weaker of my theories, though.
2) Saya does in fact look human-like, but being an inter-dimensional anomaly, merely cannot be properly comprehended by mortals. Anything otherwise than human-like is just from characters going insane due to not being able to comprehend the inter-dimensional anomaly she is.
The only characters who don't go insane upon perceiving Saya, are Fuminori and Professor Ougai. But since Professor Ougai doesn't have the same 'meat-vision' as Fuminori, logically he should go insane, right? But he doesn't. What he and Fuminori have in common, is that both characters are already insane, that whatever they perceive of her do not scare them.
But what really hints at Saya being human-like, is professor Ougai's description of Saya. While he didn't perceive her as a human being either, he did perceive her using proper Japanese words and pronunciation.
This human-like use of language is very contrary to the testimony of other characters, who perceive Saya's words to be monstrous gibberish, not unlike how Fuminori sees normal people.
We know at least Saya is properly able to speak the Japanese language. By the very fact that other characters perceive something otherwise, we can assume that they are hallucinating as they look upon Saya. To an extent, this also means Ougai hallucinated her visual appearance, but to have made sense of her voice, mean there is something more to her that normal people are not properly perceiving.
Furthermore, again why she may have a human form, how does one rape a tentacle monster like Saya? The very fact Saya could be groped and raped like what happens to her in the story, assumes that she has a simple anatomy, which others merely perceive to be complex.
All that said, we do know that Saya has the ability to transform her limbs into viscera-like matter. In the fighting game, she uses her hair as a weapon by transforming it into viscera. And as she compares herself in the VN, she is like a dandelion, who reproduces by spreading her seed with spores, which is exactly what she does at the end of the VN, where she grows wings and transforms Japan into fleshy beings similar to what Fuminori perceives. It is very likely she simply transformed others to have a similar dimension-bending property to Saya's appearance, which also explains why her hair could suddenly become fleshy, even though her hair is normally green.
I do present a third theory:
3) Saya is able to transform herself into a human being, but simply chooses to be fleshy in the VN.
